The UC Merced Office of Communications serves a number of different functions. One of our primary missions is to foster public support for and trust in the university and its goals. One of the ways we do this is by working with the media to make sure our message gets to the public.
We research and provide information for news stories; issue press releases; facilitate interviews with faculty, staff and students; help reporters find the information they need from a variety of campus sources, including faculty experts; and we also publicize events, programs and updated campus information.
We maintain and enhance the campus Web site and other top level UC Merced Web sites, which feature:
• Graduate profiles highlighting the class of 2009 experience
• Stories about people, events and programs
• Links to individual academic, research and administrative Web sites
• Webcams that show a variety of views of our university
We are constantly searching for avenues by which we can share our campus with everyone.
Marketing tools, such as publications, are another avenue with which our office provides support to ensure campus messages are clearly communicated and understood. Services we offer include:
• Editing and writing assistance
• Web guidance and design
• Strategic communications planning
• A variety of workshops
• Photography
We also distribute electronic newsletters to specific audiences. Panorama is a monthly publication for faculty and staff that is usually sent out near the first of each month. Update, which is for campus friends and donors, is distributed in the middle of each month. Submission deadlines for each publication are about two weeks before its distribution date.
